It's a job and that's about it. There is not much going on in the US. They are eliminating everything that is US based.
Cons
Management's vision is very short sighted. Rather than try and fix things in the US, they simply eliminate it.... Sure, if your hourly labor rate is $75/hour fully fringed you have to do things differently. And this is only because the big 3 let it get this way becasue they "couldn't afford" a strike. Well guess what, they (and the rest of us) are now paying for for the farm being given away over the last 25-30 years. But shuting everything down and walking away is not a good answer either. Lean mfg supports manufacturing in region. Due to the greatly reduced product pipeline, it supports better quality and design response times for your customers. When the parts are made next door, you can change things in "hours". When the parts are made half way around the world the response time is 6 to 8 weeks. And that just starts the issues list for long distance supply.. The only thing that makes sense to ship around the world is non-engineered parts, true commodities like nuts and bolts. Commodities are parts you can go to a local store and buy if is a supply disruption ocurrs. Unfortunately, management thinks everything is a commodity. At $20-25/hour fully fringed it doesn't make sense to ship things around the world. And that is not a 3rd world labor rate... If you want to do better you need an education.
