Pros

Higher paying welding/machine shop/quality control, plenty of overtime if you want to work 7 days a week, some personel do actually know how to build things. lots of young talent should be utilizing the brains of the older folks. The company invests in alot of money in tooling and welding applications that are new.

Cons

Complete lack of respect for blue collar workers. too many rules and regulations that dont get enforced unless they have someone in mind to push out of employment. Management is top heavy. Used to only have supervision and plant manager. Now there are several positions. Lots of top level jobs go to who you are buddies with and have no aptitude for the job. The supervisors got perks taken away. mandatory 48 hour work week before overtime is paid. They took away their retirement package. How are we to keep good quality people if you do not compensate them well? on top of this the union is looked at as a con but necessary in here. if there was no union no telling what would happen. Too bad upper management isnt walking the talk. They dont give any leway for people who have kids and sometimes have to leave. They write you up for missing time but you can weld the wrong material on the wrong job or machinist can crash the machine over and over, people been caught reading and cellphonin all day long no problem. but if you are late or miss time you get fired. The talented folk have retired or quit. Just in 2014 we have lost several good engineers, a dozen of hourly staff and they never posted those jobs right away so now others will be forced to pick up the slack. This place pushes safety and makes us read all this silly nonesense about safety but when things start rolling they force people to work 7 days a week. Like another reviewer said some folks here have been working 7 days a week for about 6 months now. we are in danger of missing a ship date due to material not getting here soon enough and not having the qualified welders. They also are using the wrong welding application to save on heat sinks when they should go back to stick welding rather than Tig welding. I can go on and on. We have people who get top rate with no weld quals and people on top rate dont have near the skills needed to work independantly. Those who do have the skills get stuck on a no nothing job and do NOT utilaze the staff we have. This has been going on for many years that I have been here. There have been efforts to cut cost by subdividing some of the classifications but when those employees they tried to cut their pay told the company they will go back to the original classification. Now they still work in their normal job that was supposed to have salary cut but they got to keep their original salary. So others have had to take a pay cut due to management not telliing the truth and even with schooling and degrees was forced to accept a lesser paying job regardless of A+ work ethics and no rejected welding from them. Goes to show they insist on people welding the wrong things and making rework. The supervisory people lie to each other and are not honest about whats really happening in the shop floor. They do not do proper carry over so often off shifts redo the work that was already preformed but no one said anything so often time is wasted reworking and redoing mistakes that shouldnt have happened to begin with. The drawings that are used to make the parts are often inaccurate. Hourly workers will raise the issue and nothing gets done. The next time the part is built the same problems happen because no one has written it into the prints/prod orders to eliminate wasted time wasted material on and on and on. I dont recommend this company. Its getting worse the longer I stay working here. I love science and joined up because I wanted to work in this field that is coming back now that we are running out of power options to keep the electrical grid working.
