Pros

The people in my department are very dedicated and are some of the best I've worked with. Each one of them brings a unique set of skills that allows the group to complete difficult and technically challenging projects.

Cons

Morale has been a major issue due no raises for this fiscal year and layoffs in the previous year. Overtime is offered for exempt employees but you have to work 8 hours of casual (free) overtime per week and accrue 300hours of CTO (credited time off) that requires director approval - in essence there is no overtime pay for exempt employees. CTO can only be used with director approval, basically making it unusable. Mandatory overtime has been implemented for some employees due to a specific project needing to make a deadline. Other employees are under constant threat of mandatory uncompensated overtime although they've meet their project commitments. There are no leaders throughout management. They are unwilling to backup their employees and fold when push by higher levels of management so not to be seen as trouble maker. Each has an agenda that does not align with the message put out by our CEO and conflicting instructions are often given causing chaos within the ranks. Promotions are non-existent unless you are in management. Performance ratings are not based on work performed but who you know and how willing you are to back their decision no matter how bad. The use of the term "Safety Culture" is used as an excuse by management to make the working conditions hostel at times by enforcing rules that make no sense. Someone is always around to point out what you done wrong but not what was done right. Claim to be a highly technical company. Technical Excellence is being replaced with COTS (commercial off the shelf) and seriously reducing the expertise and knowledge base of the engineers and technical staff.
