Pros

- Super smart co-workers that do amazing work for clients. - People are curious and eager to learn about their jobs and tech in general. - Interesting projects for nationally known brands. You can work on exciting new technologies. - Everyone is welcomed to contribute new ideas, regardless of seniority or role. - Work/life balance is good, particularly during covid. We have flexibility in managing our time, to help us meet family and personal obligations. - Excellent benefits and pay. - Company is growing like crazy. No worries about job security.

Cons

WillowTree has advantages over other companies: WillowTree is growing and successful, with an incredible culture and tons of of talent. As a result, I expect a lot more from WillowTree than the company is currently delivering. - Innovation: Some executives have a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” outlook. They don’t want to rock the boat. That type of outlook is deadly in tech. The company needs to be innovating constantly, rather than limiting what we do to what we’ve done successfully in the past. - Prescriptive, top-down leadership: While it appears that some leaders want to hear from employees, others would rather command than listen. When employees bring new ideas they are often dismissed if they don’t fit the leader’s preconceived idea of how things have always been done. - Connecting disciplines: Rather than integrating disciplines that should be working together, the company separates them. This makes it harder for people to collaborate in ways that create world-class products. - Selective feedback: While billable project team members get feedback regularly, most execs and some unbillable teams do not solicit or seem to welcome feedback. This sends the message that these team members are not to be questioned.

Thanks for taking the time to write this, the positive comments, particularly about how great your co-workers and clients are, and the areas for improvement. We are definitely focused on innovation (e.g. what we are doing in Voice, the Vocable app which is a pro bono eye-based speech recognition app for physically impaired users and Growth Marketing). But would love to hear directly on ideas on where/how we can do more as I agree innovation is critical for our growth/success. We also run quarterly company and team surveys than include the ability to review/comment on every team's and company leadership -- so please ping me on how we can get better at soliciting feedback as I also agree this is critical.... - Tobias

Pros

Lots of really nice, and smart people who are very collaborative and excited to share their knowledge. This is not a prestigious place to work, so I was a bit surprised by just how smart and competent people are at WillowTree or TELUS Digital, whatever our name is. The offices are great and the office culture is ridiculously good. Huge shoutout to the employees (it's def not upper management) who go out of their way to make the office culture great. Depending on what project you're on, it can be a pretty chill place to work. If you're early in your career and need experience, the variety of projects makes this a genuinely good opportunity.

Cons

The biggest con is the compensation. It's so terrible, and far below the industry standard that I don't really see how anyone could stay here long term. They don't give raises, no one is getting promotions. There's also quite a lot of restructuring going on, and very poor communication about it. Which is par for the course in the tech industry at this point, but worth noting. It feels relatively stable for now, but I really have trouble seeing how their tech services division is going to survive as AI decreases the cost to build software. Plus, tech services as part of TELUS Digital doesn't really make any sense long term. It's a contact center business with a bunch of people that randomly make expensive mobile apps? It seems to be making enough money for now to keep going, but I feel like that could change any moment.
