Pros

Some incredibly intelligent, empathetic people work here.

Cons

Since the acquisition, things have been going downhill. There was a jarring layoff despite C Suite boasting about never doing layoffs, even during COVID, and the way they went about doing it was traumatic. They've slowly been taking away perks, making remote people feel like they are less valuable, less intelligent, less worthy, and continue to disprove all of their core values. You want mentorship? Good luck, all of the senior level engineers are being tasked with ridiculous things and meetings with clients that are circular and endless. They do not teach anyone how to mentor, they do not teach management how to manage people, they just throw everyone in the water and hope they learn how to swim. You want psychological safety and open communication? Well you can give it, but you won't get it back. Sustainable flow? Good luck with hundreds of daily meetings. Ownership? They won't take ownership of what they do, but they'll happily steal ownership over things the individual contributor has done that made a big splash. Partnership? Inclusion? If you're a minority, prepare to deal with a lot of microaggressions and get nothing done when you go to HR. Look at the ratings chart, this company has taken a serious nose dive. They are so unfocused and trying to get into voice or AI or whatever trend they want and are dividing the company further. They are losing some seriously great talent because of underpaying, overworking, and lying through their teeth.

Thank you for the note and acknowledging the incredible folks we have here. I know everyone has been extraordinarily frustrated by the layoffs we had to do in May driven by the changes in the market. I also understand the timing of those vis-a-vis our acquisition but can assure you those are unrelated -- TI has been nothing but supportive, and no one could have foreseen the depth of the pullback in tech and consulting as companies cut $billions in spending and 100s of thousands of positions. I am also aligned with your thoughts of of "go back to the way things were" and we are working on that every day primarily by working with our amazing teams and clients to ensure a steady increase in projects, and where we have made great progress.... Pros

Lots of really nice, and smart people who are very collaborative and excited to share their knowledge. This is not a prestigious place to work, so I was a bit surprised by just how smart and competent people are at WillowTree or TELUS Digital, whatever our name is. The offices are great and the office culture is ridiculously good. Huge shoutout to the employees (it's def not upper management) who go out of their way to make the office culture great. Depending on what project you're on, it can be a pretty chill place to work. If you're early in your career and need experience, the variety of projects makes this a genuinely good opportunity.

Cons

The biggest con is the compensation. It's so terrible, and far below the industry standard that I don't really see how anyone could stay here long term. They don't give raises, no one is getting promotions. There's also quite a lot of restructuring going on, and very poor communication about it. Which is par for the course in the tech industry at this point, but worth noting. It feels relatively stable for now, but I really have trouble seeing how their tech services division is going to survive as AI decreases the cost to build software. Plus, tech services as part of TELUS Digital doesn't really make any sense long term. It's a contact center business with a bunch of people that randomly make expensive mobile apps? It seems to be making enough money for now to keep going, but I feel like that could change any moment.
