Pros
- You will be surrounded by the smartest, most dedicated, and most appreciative people you have EVER worked with. Guaranteed. - People are dedicated here such that they truly embrace and stick to their roles. If you need a task performed and know you should turn to a paralegal for it, they're there for you. They aren't simultaneously going to be ordering beverages for the conference room or managing commuter benefits like they might also do at a smaller firm - This firm is run by smart leadership for the most part that understands when someone or one team shines, we all shine. - You will get to work on cases here that are in the news every single day. You will do work that matters. This firm has high-profile clients as part of its portfolio for a reason. Because it knows how to get things done. - People here are very appreciative of hard work. - Everyone here is nice. Very few a-holes.
Cons
- The work/life balance here truly is crap! Won't sugarcoat it. This firm owns your time. You will work nights and often late nights. They will own your time on weekends and also holidays (like...every holiday). Should you chose to come work here, your children will say "Mommy, why are you still working?". If you are still here years from now, your children will say: "Yeah, my Dad never really made it to many of my school events because he was always working". Determine whether you want that for your life because you will NEVER get that precious time back. And neither will your children. - You will learn that there is a "Wilmer Way" very quickly and speaking up to rock the boat is sort of frowned upon. - If you are an introverted person, you'd better learn to speak up if you intend to survive here. People will not wait for you to speak, will often talk over you, and will constantly interupt you. - They monitor your WFH/in-office attendance like HAWKS. You are required to report on why you were not compliant for a given week. Attorneys and supporting staff for attorneys are required to be in 4 days/wk. - Navigating the strong personalities this firm has is really a job in and of itself sometimes
