      Okay work culture, bad promotion and compensation opportunities - Software Engineer Wise Employee Review

      Pros

      Good opportunity to travel, with fully funded trips to Estonia twice a year. Mission driven company.

      Cons

      Engineering review process has become very subjective, and salary and growth opps are much less than at other companies. Wise is still paying heavily under market. Support for junior engineers is definitely not enough, and mentorship culture is lacking. Support for women in engineering is abysmal from management.

      Good PTO, and friendly Wisers.

      Cons

      Management is totally micromanagement, and the People team does not advocate for employees; they appear present only in name. If I were in Kristo’s position, I would conduct a thorough top-to-bottom review of the entire HR department of U.S., and replace all of them. If over 70% of the Austin team would never recommend this workplace, it is a significant warning sign that needs to be addressed.
