Pros

A lot of pros I'll list represent what the company used to be, not who they are today. When I worked there from 2017-2021, it felt like I'd hit the jackpot working there. It was a startup with a very different culture that offered a lot of PTO, a generous healthcare plan and 401k match, a beautiful office that was centrally located downtown, some work remote flexibility, a culture of mutual respect and feedback, "no managers" (you could give feedback to somebody 3 pay grades above you and it's expected that it would be handled respectfully.) - The company used to do an annual summer event in Estonia, where I celebrated two birthdays. It's not often you get to fly to Europe on business, stay in a 4 star hotel, get all your food and transport covered, see a new country, and party hard and make tons of new friends on the weekend. I will cherish those memories forever. - I was promoted twice, given two title changes in 4 years. The first promotion was for a role I had no experience for. They took a chance on me. Most companies will not take a chance on anyone anymore. Most companies want 7-10 years experience, a masters degree, certifications and licensing and bilingual for an entry level job paying 60k a year. Wise deserves credit for promoting internally. - In 2021 I got very sick, and Wise rose to the occasion and helped me. They had a very generous PTO policy as I said, even sent me get well cards and gift cards for medical supplies, and donated to a Gofundme for my medical bills. This will always be so greatly appreciated. - Stock options paid off heavily for early employees

Cons

- Pay was always very low. Still today advertises 35% under market value in my field. When they were a startup it was worth it and the excellent benefits made up for it. There are really no excuses today. - The company went public in summer 2021. And while some early employees made a lot of money on this stock sale, that was the beginning of the end. That's when the startup became the big corporation they hated and openly mocked for the first decade of their existence. Directors and shareholders now called the shots. The KPI's got much stricter and good people started getting fired at an average of 1-2 per week. It was no longer a feedback culture. - After 2-3 years of the office morale being in the dumps, the company closed the Tampa office which had done so much to build up their empire, and they laid off 307 employees. The Tampa office was always neglected and overlooked to begin with and this was the last straw. Several of my friends were suddenly out of a job and I was heartbroken for them. - I went for a long shot and applied to come back to work for them in January 2025 and was not treated fairly. Surprisingly my application got through the algorithm and then I was sent an assessment, which I aced (partly because I helped my lead write part of the page on their website that contained all the answers.) I then received an automated email stated I was being rejected because of the test result, which was impossible. I asked for an explanation and was ignored by 3 people. I escalated the issue to the Head of Recruitment, who generously said that the system wrongly rejected my application, that I am indeed a strong candidate, and we could proceed with an interview IF I was willing to move to Austin Texas. I am still disabled and that is not possible at the moment. I tried to offer a compromise or asked for some other accommodation ideas that could work for both myself and the company, and I was yet again ignored. I wish that recruiters and hiring managers understood how hurtful it is to be ignored, especially after you've gotten past the initial screening and spent a significant amount of time on the hiring process, even more so for an ex employee who wants to come "home" - That's another negative about the company in 2025. The job can 100% be done remotely (it was for a year and a half during Covid and my productivity went up during that time, not down) but they absolutely refuse, even for a disabled employee who is highly qualified to do the job, but just physically can't commute to an office 3 days a week. This company says all the right things about diversity, but is not at all serious about providing reasonable accommodations for highly qualified employees who request them. I asked for a 12 month exemption from the office policy with a doctor's note, stating I'd commit to moving to Austin in 1 year, and that was ignored too.

Pros

Mission-Driven Work: Wise’s mission of "money without borders" aligned perfectly with my personal values. I was genuinely excited to go to work every day, tackle challenges, and track our progress toward that goal. Exceptional Peer Group: The hiring bar is high; you’ll work with smart, diverse, and genuinely interesting people from all backgrounds. Cutting-Edge Product: Working on the Wise Platform is a great technical experience. As an Implementation Manager, you get excellent visibility and access to the Product and Engineering teams. Top-Tier Documentation: Internal enablement and documentation are highly organized, making it easy to self-serve and find answers quickly.

Cons

Lack of Transparency in Management: I received no negative feedback during my probation period, only to be placed on a PIP two weeks after it ended. The feedback loop is non-existent; instead of real-time coaching, minor oversights are "saved up" to justify disciplinary action. Poor Feedback Quality: The PIP I received felt AI-generated, filled with corporate jargon and lacking substantive examples of performance failure. It felt like a formality rather than a genuine attempt at development. Toxic Management Culture: There is a palpable sense of micromanagement and "back-stabbing" within certain leadership circles. The environment shifted from collaborative to manipulative, with a noticeable lack of directness and honesty. Growth Hurdles: The Sales team appears to be struggling to close deals, which impacts the overall momentum of the department.
