Pros
I set my own rates, hours, schedules, etc. They find me many, many qualified prospects. They don't interfere with my ongoing tutoring. // I can remain "professional" with students and parents, concentrating on the actual tutoring (and scheduling, etc.), because Wyzant handles ALL of the billing and reporting!
Cons
The initial 40% cut IS rather steep, at first, but it quickly drops and eventually goes down to 20 (and the discounts do not come out my share). I don't consider that a problem, because it is well worth it to get so many good leads! However, there were a few other problems to report: 1. the student list is not alphabetized properly (or consistently), sometimes making it difficult to report lessons, etc. 2. The "distance" algorithm is seriously flawed, because it measures Great Circle routes over water, rather than actual highway mileage. 2. The "background check" caused a serious problem, at first, because it used my business Tax ID number and came up with a bad report, because it could find no such person!) This was corrected quickly, but i don't know if they warn new tutors about this problem.
