Pros

I don't think there were any real pros here. You send out dozens of requests and hardly any of it materializes into clients. WyzAnt takes such a huge cut out of your pay your efforts seem wasted.

Cons

It's very difficult to find students and very difficult to keep up with their parents' expectations. Many students I encountered were not academically prepared and were not in a good mindset to do academic work over a sustained period of time. I concede that I live in a more competitive location (NY Metropolitan area) where it's a seller's market. But I've corresponded with cheap parents who try to lowball tutors by paying cash off the site; parents who beg for year-long commitments upfront and then vanish with barely a trace. Worst of all, I had students who whined to their parents when they were meeting real challenges instead of persevering. I've seen some of these same parents get back on the site begging for help after I was fired, and their request went unanswered because the skill set I had was niche. The client I was able to keep was mostly fine, but WyzAnt took a whopping 40%, which made me feel like I was begging for chump change. I have a full-time job now, and I'm so glad I don't have to jump through all these hoops anymore.

Pros

nothing, really nothing. i signed up with them got a few jobs then once a week i would get the same notification that there was someone looking for a tutor then when i tried to go back to accept the job got a message that it was a scam and they were removing it. it was always the same name and they would follow up with the same autogenerated message: Hi Chris, We are reaching out in regards to a message you recently received from xxxxxxxxxxxxxx . After reviewing this request, we have determined that we will not be able to facilitate lessons with this account. Consequently, we have removed the request and your response rate and time will not be affected. Wyzant may remove requests that violate the terms of use, academic honesty or test policies, or if a request appears to be spam. Additionally, Wyzant may remove requests that cannot be facilitated because they fall outside of the parameters of our platform, or are not related to tutoring. Please note that Wyzant will not be able to uphold any lesson charges for this user or any new accounts they may create.
