Pros
It's customer base so these are the pros for my warehouse. Supervisors work just as hard. In my warehouse the supervisors seem like they are one of you and will stand up for you as long as you are working hard. An example of this is recently their was someone who was being accused of improper packaging on high priced product. Upper management wanted to give them corrective action (if you get three of these you get terminated) their supervisor said there was no way it was there fault considering everything was manufactured sealed and packaged. And fought against the corrective action. (This happens all the time and no matter what upper management will blame one of the little people because it's easier to do this than file paperwork and have to answer to someone on what happened.) Paid weekly Mandatory OT does not exist in our warehouse. (Upper management did tell us one time that a set time to leave is just a recommendation not a scheduled time, That didn't go over to well with us peasants so there is a set time) OT pay is time and a half which is pretty good. Holidays off and paid. PTO its always nice to be able to get paid time off. If you have plans for something and don't need the money you do not have to take your PTO you must put in a request to take that day but tell them you don't want to use PTO this does not give you a point at all because it was a requested day off. Now PTO requesting is different per customer so this does not apply to all XPO.
Cons
It's customer based. Meaning who ever is your customer is pretty much the company you work for I don't care what any contract says nor my paycheck saying XPO Logistics the customer is the one in charge of you because you are handling their products. PTO this is nice to have, but it is so slow to accumulate your first year is only a week worth of pto. No sick days (ALL XPO) if you want paid you have to take your PTO if you call in sick you get a half a point towards your attendance. Once you have 5 points you get a write up and a warning. The XPO I work at does not have climate control and tends to get around 100-140 degrees in the summer months. (which is really damaging to the products my warehouse is controlled of) Anyone higher than a supervisor does not care about anyone but how they can make more money. Super unorganized. Hiring takes way too long. We had so much on our hands and only had 5 people to do all of it. We would have to stay until 4 in the morning some nights just to get everything done. More indepth hiring policy for the warehouse I reside in: 1. To create a job it has to be a 10 page proposal on why you need more people. 2. Submit said proposal to the customer. 3. It takes them up to 6 weeks to approve 1 position so if you have multiple it takes even longer. 4. Once approved it is created and openly put online. 5. No one gets interviewed until at least 5 people applied for the position. (It doesn't matter how long the position has been posted for.) 6. Once you are hired it takes a month for everything to get done (Such as background and drug checks.) Also it's not really a con but, they do call every single person that you have ever worked for in the last 10 years. So the hiring process is a 3 month minimum process which is awful considering my warehouse's busy time is in the summer. Once everything is calm you have 8 hours to do the work of 3 hours with more people. Pay and raises Like I said this cannot be accurate because it all depends who your customer is so I will go indepth of the pays and raises for my particular warehouse. Material handlers: The average material handler gets paid 13 an hour. Leads: 14.50 an hour which is not nearly enough Inventory specialists: 17 an hour these people are the ones that only count and don't do their job well and complains about every little thing and offer no solutions. The yearly raise for the above groups is an insulting amount of 27 cents. Supervisors Strictly salary no overtime pay: 45,000 a year which in our region the average logistics ops supers make 56,000 a year. Raises for these guys are 800 a year. Super Ops manager: 80,000 a year (Gets a quarterly bonus) Site Manager: Six figure (gets a quarterly bonus) Regional manager: Six figure (gets a quarterly bonus) Contract says there is shift differential THERE ISN'T! Different shifts are constantly at each others throats. This is due to management every single time there is a company party or company gathering only first shift gets to participate because they always schedule these events during second shift. Example: Bowling event where the company bought beers and food for everyone it was scheduled for 6 pm to 9 pm on a Thursday. Second shift got to go for an hour and bowl then go right back to work. Another Example a company picnic with all kinds of activities schedule for 5 pm on a Thursday get to go to eat, as soon second shift gets there they get called back into work because a truck showed up. To me this shows that management doesn't care about everyone and its their fault if people are not coming together as a team. Training (this was no issue when I started I was trained properly and given good insights) NOW we have new people that have only been around for a month training even newer people. This is part of the unorginization I was talking about.
