Pros

High-deductible medical, dental, pension (for now), 401K, HSA, on-site gym, transit/parking stipend. Quarterly reviews. Steady, high volume of work.

Cons

Xcel pays less than the private sector. Annual bonuses are not guaranteed. Training funds and O&M seems to magically disappear within 6 months of the start of the new fiscal year. Human resources is for the company, not the employee. Not a great place if you are looking for diversity in the type/kind of work, geography, or advancement within a group -- be prepared to be pigeon-holed. If you want certain management/director roles, you have to take a "personality" - psyche test to be considered for the position.

Pros

Work-life balance, okay benefits, and cemented impact on the community

Cons

Because the company has a bottom line, promotional paths aren't really a thing beyond individual contributor to manager. I don't know what the next level up would be besides that.
