Cross-departmental communication and refinement - GAC Representative ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Employee Review

Pros

There is a clear division of labor at ZIM so that everyone can focus and specialize in their work. A simple and well-established process can be familiarized and followed in a short period of time. Through the work, we can intuitively feel the rise and fall of freight rates and the trend of trade changes, which enriches my knowledge of traditional industries.

Cons

Grass-roots employees rarely appear in cross-departmental communication, resulting in a lack of thinking and understanding from other perspectives when working with other departments, which may be a manifestation of ZIM's clear division of labor system. If cross-departmental communication doesn't be limited to senior employees, I believe that grassroots employees can better understand the management's decision-making and complete their work exactly. Or organize regular cross-department sharing meetings, where different departments can share their own structure, processes, and concerns with colleagues from the connected departments to help each other better cooperate. As far as the GAC is concerned, the characteristics of different routes and market sales can be shared with us by the sales or BU to help us better understand the characteristics of the market, and even identify incomplete or special rate filing requests and confirm them with the sales or BU in a timely manner.

Pros

As a student you get to make your own 20 hour per week work schedule. I currently have Mondays off, Tue-Thur 2p-6p, and Friday 9a-6p (dress down/office party day). Currently making $25 an hour and will be employed until I gradate with the option to maintain my current role as a Resolution Student Analyst or move to another department. This is a warm corporate environment that wants you to excel.

Cons

As a part-time employee, you don't get any benefits that actually benefit you. Upon graduation as an intern, if the department you work in is full, you won't get hired to work full time in it and will have to transfer to a different one to stay with the company. The Intern program contract says it lasts until you graduate but Zim can terminate your position at their discretion. Full-time workers are obligated to work 45 hours a week (salary position) and won't be paid for overtime.

Pros

Stable company that is easy to manage. Work life balance is great

Cons

Management through and through. Working in the US for an Israeli company is not like working for a US company. Simple as that. Pay is poor Micromanagement and reporting Old school in the worst ways
