Pros
Work from home full time
Cons
Work doesn't matter. Being in the cool gang matters. Extremely political. Examples: 1. Required to work a weekend. A guy testing the most important area refused. 2 people did his work for him, found all kind of issues. The guy took credit. The leaders knew, absolutely knew but he is in clique. They made a show of thanking him. The VP even sent an email thanking him personally. Not the women who actually did it. They KNEW 2. 1 developer questions as most IT folks do in design meetings. They get mad. They actually bully and make fun of her. They joke in meetings how they do it. She tried to speak up once, got tired of it. They wrote her up. One of the main developers who bullied her caised all kind of isdues - bad code, broken builds, regused to fix isdues. BUT she is in the in crowd, guess who was just promoted. There are a million stories like this. Next con is the work doesnt matter. One lady was hired gor processes. We use to find the google locations that were pasted word for word in our docs. Rarely with an understanding of what the site was saying. One person used to ask questions on it. They did her the same as the other. She left now. Not in the "in crowd" They took years to deliver a new app. They give excuses when it was simply poorly run. It is terrible. They refuse to fix most bugs unless reported by client and actually ask clients and Client Service team to test instead of the Testing team. They aren't run at all like a development team would be. The VP surrounded himself with yes men who could google to learn of IT. He is leaving now and many without IT experience are clamoring for his job. Let's see if the leaders know better. I dont have high hopes. These people dont care if the work is done well. They care if you fit in the club. If you want a place to rise with 0 responsibility, you will love it. As a developer, you will be greatly overworked. They work ticket by ticket vs in Releases or sprint. Everything is emergency. The good news is that the same bug can come back 200 times so no stress. No one cares. No one even really knows.
