Pros

- Job Security (they don't pay you anything so letting people go isn't a priority) - Industry Knowledge (you will learn the ins and outs of the retirement business) - Generous Vacation (you will be able to take plenty of time off)

Cons

- Very Stressful/Sweatshop Environment - Limited/Politically-Motivated Advancement Opportunities - Extremely Low Pay - Big Brother Atmosphere - Scheduling Inflexibility Overall, you should only consider working in the call center at Great-West if you are desperate and cannot possibly do anything else, or if you are a new college graduate that needs a temporary job until something better comes along.

Pros

Its a job, that's about the best I can say. Their benefits are average, there is a parking garage for employees, a small onsite gym, good location and a decent cafeteria.

Cons

Very disconnected management. I never felt like I was engaged in part of the "big picture" there as compared to other past employers. There is little downward communication, many internal silos, and limited opportunity for advancement. Many employees only know the "Great-West way" and in my opinion are behind the competition in both education and outside experience, which is unnecessary given that Denver has one of the most educated workforces in the country. There were grudges held when I was hired into a managerial role from the outside that never got much better. Salaries are average to below-average in the industry, and the performance evaluation process archaic compared to competitors. Certain departments have too many underperforming and lazy employees, while others are seriously understaffed and overworked. Ex-employees often refer to the organization as "Great Waste", which is sad. If U.S. headquarters were located somewhere with more competitor presence GW would really need to up their game to keep any kind of talent whatsoever. Since Denver is a desirable place to live and there are not many large financial services organizations left, this is how GW survives I think.
