      GWL is an okay place to start and get some experience, but you won't make as high a salary as other places.

      Pros

      Opportunities for growth and advancement are there depending on the manager. I came in to GWL out of college and was able to move up fairly quickly and received several promotions. I like that they combine sick and vacation time off into paid annual leave (PAL) if you're not sick a lot that means you can get a lot of vacation. The environment is also fairly relaxed, I was able to work from home time to time whenever necessary, but not on a regular basis.

      Cons

      Even though there are opportunities for advancement, the salaries are a little low. I have moved on and was able to find a much higher salary in a comparable environment. The health benefits are not acceptable and gets worse and worse every year.

      Pros

      The best reasons to work at Great West are the benefits. Generous time off and when it's not the "busy season" you can take vacations. Also, Great West is always offering training classes on anything from Excel to professional licenses and the company also gives a decent tuition reimbusement for business classes (5k a yr).

      Cons

      Great West's philosophy is to promote employees who have worked at Great West the longest, not who can do the best job. If you are a hard worker you will be rewarded by doing other employees work load which will burn you out. Great West doesn't seem to get rid of "dead weight" so the lazy employees never have to change. Also, Great West's idea of a raise is 2-4%, hardly worth it.

      Pros

      The people we worked with were great. The lower end employees were always eager to help out and get you what you needed.

      Cons

      The upper management in our office and in offices around the area displayed a very strong "them" and "us" attitude towards office workers.
