Mismanaged, Unsupportive, and Unsustainable

Pros

- The mission of helping students with college admissions is meaningful. - A few colleagues were genuinely supportive and collaborative. - Remote flexibility.

Cons

- Leadership is disorganized and lacks transparency. Priorities shift constantly, often without clear communication, leaving teams scrambling. - Unrealistic expectations with little regard for work-life balance. Burnout is common and rarely acknowledged. - Compensation does not reflect the workload or industry standards. Raises, bonuses, or growth opportunities are limited. - Poor support for employees—feedback is inconsistent (if any), and managers are often unavailable. - The company culture emphasizes sales targets and numbers over student success or employee well-being. - High turnover creates instability; institutional knowledge is lost regularly.

Pros

Empowerly has been truly one of the most formative companies I've been at. Though hectic at times like any startup, it's a lot of hard work and good work. - Without Empowerly, I wouldn't have been able to dip my toes into multiple departments and leadership was very supportive of wearing multiple hats - I also learned a lot of leadership and core skills - Colleagues are brilliant, some of the best people I've worked with - Pay is competitive and market rate for a growth stage startup, with opportunities to move between departments Being here genuinely accelerated my career, and I'm grateful for Empowerly for giving me this opportunity

Cons

Like any startup, you will work long hours and be on call on weekends. But at the end of the day, they are transparent about the nature of the work and you're not going in blind. The support from managers and colleagues really make the work enjoyable no matter how hard it is.
