Pros

I ended up at Enbridge after they purchased Union Gas. At this point in time, there are still some great managers and leaders around from Union Gas in my business unit and I enjoy working with most of my colleagues.

Cons

Everything has a "big company" feel and flavour to it. Lots of similarities to the company portrayed in the movie "Office Space" including tons of bureaucracy and weird policies than nobody seems to understand. This phenomenon is so prevalent, Corporate recently started a "makes no sense" campaign where employees are encouraged to post examples of policies and practices on an internal message board. You'd think that would be a step in the right direction, but so far it's just been a forum for management to gang-up on anyone brave enough to come forward. That's just one example of a bigger trend where management tries to encourage dialogue, but then craps all over everyone. My other major beef is the lack of diversity in the higher levels of management and general lack of progressiveness. While the company is decent when it comes to optics and spin around topics du jour like #metoo, there is very little actual substance behind the razzle dazzle and a female employee was famously degraded by a senior leader at a company-wide forum last year. The company and its leaders are old, uninspiring and lack the ability to engage in authentic dialogue with employees. Everything is very scripted and rehersed, but you get the feeling they completely resent their own workforce behind close doors. In addition to all of this, there have been many layoffs...thousands of jobs cut... and there are more to come. There is no job security and many are discontent and just waiting for a severance package.

Pros

Decent vacation and based downtown. Colleagues are OK because all the difficult workers were laid off. Decent volunteer opportunities. If you’re female you’re likely to get promoted.

Cons

Micromanagement or nonexistent management. Constant change and low morale. Everyone is just waiting to be next. Intentional salary compression of employees. Many Initiatives but most are superficial and repetitive. Very sheeplike workforce.
