Great company if you can get past the management style at the regional level
Pros
The company has a lot going for it, the compensation is good for the industry, the executive management is good (except for managing the regional and area managers), the benefits are good, and the company is top of the class when it comes to technical training and advancing technology pertaining to processes (po's, reviews, general company information). Even the hours are not bad for the industry we have chosen.
Cons
This is where it gets tricky.....the company as a whole is great for the industry but a huge downfall (and why I only gave the company 3 stars) is who is watching and monitoring the regional staffs? The regional staffs are very tight nit group. If you get on there bad side...watch out!! I have been personally told(and heard it told to my employee's) that when someone from corp comes out you do not mention issues you are having (I know somebody who did, and they lasted about 4 months after that) to that person. Another problem is favoritism....how is it possible for a person to be promoted to a director that doesn't know how to cut a po, do monthly reports, forecast to the hotel or even do a review for their employee's (I was that guy when I got promoted, but don't tell the regional's)? You know how, you just have to kiss up to the right regional and you are in. Just smile, say yes sir, and tell them what a good job they are doing and you should be on your way. Then you have the review process....how can they review you when they have not been at the hotel in 3 months, they say they talk to the hotel personal but you can ask around and find out the most of the time you have to introduce them because they don't even know the names of the people at the hotel (you can tell that because once a year the regional's will send out an email asking for everybody's name). When is the last time some of the regional staff has been moved around like chess pieces like we are? That would be another item...the regional team will not even let you know when they are about to move somebody out of the location until a day or two before it is supposed to happen (this has not yet happened to me as a director but it did at other properties I have worked at), they are so secretive that you feel like you are walking on invisible eggshells. When it does happen I hope it does not cause a service error, then it would be my fault and the area or regional person would write me up. Now you might be wondering what region I am talking about, well I would be afraid to say because the last big item is payback....if you say anything bad about one of the regionals you better have your office packed and your keys in the ignition. If the company figures out a process for this the company would sky rocket and be able to keep more employee's long term, but of course this is only my opinion, but I hope somebody from corporate reads this.
