Pros

Pay, Benefits, Helpful, Knowledgable Staff

Cons

Untrustworthy Management Failing Industry The Germantown office used to be a good place to work. However, 0ver the last few years that morale disappeared through office and corporate mismanagement. Now it is closed. The lower morale stemmed from the fact that office management would do little to address road blocks in the process no matter how early or often engineering presented these issues. There was great resentment by the staff towards management that would spend little time actually in the office. Promises were often made but rarely kept. Corporate management became slow to recognize and address the issues with office management. At the same time, the company experience a down-turn in billable work, which the failed to foresee, and had to cut people loose. But even that was not only handled poorly, they underestimated how many people they would need to turn away. So not only was the Germantown office experiencing hard times, the whole company was as well. Employee stock is constantly touted by the company as being incredible and tremendous for employees. Many employees use their company stock to fund their retirement, but participation in employee stock requires a degree of longevity with the company to become worthwhile. With management’s inability to accurately project the staffing sizes people lose out when the company fails to match the loyalty of the staff. What a shame. It used to be a nice, friendly place to work with great people.

Pros

perks for higher level engineers such as group leads and supervisors are working from home, being exempt from any design work, extra vacations, control of their work load, and flexible hours.

Cons

Manager and supervisors of the civil group are easily manipulated. In this group manager is always defensive, keeps himself disconnected and reacts in a negative manner when employees raise their concerns instead of improving his ways. Focus of the manager and supervisors is employee replacement vs retention. Overall there's lack of loyalty toward employees and there's a lack of commitment to current employee's professional growth and career development. The manager and his supervisors operate based on gossip, speculation and deceit instead of facts, truth and honesty. Resources are under utilized due to the manager and his supervisors failing to recognize employee's positive contributions. Manager does not defend the engineers at times of distress and engineers are always the ones taking the blame even though they are the lowest in the rankings with no control of the tasks assigned to them.

Pros

Make a good salary for minimal effort

Cons

Management, both middle and upper, will lie to your face about your prospects on being promoted. You will be told you are in the succession plan and that the next management position that opens up is yours only to be notified that someone else was chosen. The majority of middle management is incompetent and upper management is out of touch. This company really is a good OLD boys club and constantly hires and overpays old guys with nuclear industry experience just because at one point in life they may have worked at a nuclear plant. When you are hired, you will told about the company's growth, bonus program, and stock program. The growth ended a while ago and layoffs have been happening regularly for a few years now. Gain share (the quarterly bonus) is non-existent as in the last SEVERAL quarters have been $0 or insultingly small. And the stock is a manipulated number on paper that is worthless unless you can get vested and get paid out before the company runs out of money. Lastly, any good reviews you see on this site are from HR or from management (who HR told to write good reviews to get the score up). Don't ruin your career by coming to work here. Working here is the worst decision I've made and I plan to fix that in the near future by leaving as soon as I can. Maybe at my next job when they say you're in the succession plan for leadership, they will actually be telling the truth and not just feeding you some line to keep you complacent.
