Pros

England was very good about teaching how to be a broker in a fast period of time. The co-workers are second to none.

Cons

Very clicky, If you want a promotion you had better be good at playing office politics because performance does not matter. I saw 2 of the worst employees become directors in the company. On the floor the joke was "fail to succeed" I would laugh if that statement was not true. If you do not hit your number you are either fired or promoted. Having to sign a non compete that they pursue aggrssivley. I will never sign one of these for anyone again.

Thank you for the candid feedback. The only way we are going to continue to improve is through understanding what our people (current and past) are directly experiencing or at minimum observing. I'm sorry you felt pushed out the door after so many years of service. This is not our intent and I'm sorry that was the impact you felt you experienced. I also want to assure you that whenever we discuss the promotion of individuals we look at both their performance and behaviors. We are far from perfect, however, we do not embrace a promote the worst employee philosophy. But with that said, we will take a serious look at our promotion criteria, especially as we look to bring people into leadership or to increase their leadership responsibilities and influence. Thank you again for your feedback.

Pros

England Logistics has a culture built around continuous improvement, with a heavy emphasis on employee development. People read about Toyota or Honda using continuous improvement in their vehicles and applaud it because we all want better performing cars. I think some of us in the company get tripped up by personal improvement because it can feel offensive and requires that we make difficult changes to ourselves. My experience is that England Logistics has a management team of coaches who genuinely give employees their best efforts to help them improve. That means goals get bigger and benchmarks rise, but that is what has helped many of us rise professionally and personally. The compensation never changes or gets taken from you, some people just stop working, growing and improving. Imagine if an engineer from Toyota refused to improve the design for next year, because of all the work he did to design last year's model. If you are willing to be coached and stretched to greater heights, EL will help you develop better skills, stronger habits and a much bigger paycheck.

Cons

I think there are initiatives in place, but England Logistics has a handful of divisions and sometimes we lose value because we work in silos. The company could really explode if we can continue to work together on creating solutions for our customers together.

Pros

Great people committed to getting the job done! Fun work environment, free soda! Training is comprehensive and thorough. Once you do find a customer to ship freight for, the work is dynamic and challenging.

Cons

Ramp goal - increases each week, if you are not able to meet your ramp goal (margin) after several weeks, you are placed on a PIP. If you still are not able to make your goal, you are terminated. As an Account Manager, you make outbound cold calls to companies in hope of moving their freight. The 3PL (Third Party Logistics) industry is very competitive. When you call, often you are routed to a voicemail. When you do speak to a live person, often they're not interested. When someone is interested, you quote them the price for the lane, that you have calculated. If they like the quote you have to find a truck. Depending on the lane, you might spend hours trying to find a truck. It was a common practice to tell the shipper that you had a truck, when in reality you didn't. Some people had no issues with this, but for me, I felt it was unethical. On the flip side, you would have the truck all lined up, only to have them (truck) say that they had got a better rate with someone else! Never in my life had I worked with such a dysfunctional business model. The other thing that really bothered me is when I was going through hiring process, the ramp goal was not explained to me. If it had, I never would have taken the job. The turn over was very high, I often wondered what it would have been like if they would have focused more on developing the employees they did have versus using the revolving door approach.

Thank you for your candid feedback. Though you have left EL I would really appreciate additional suggestions you have to improve the business model based upon your experience. Also your take on how to better invest in our people would also be appreciated. We are trying to improve and your insights will really help. We are continually working to learn and become a place people want to join, stay and grow. Thank you again for being willing to share your experience.
