Sucked into the Venus Flytrap

Pros

Some of my very best friends were found while working here. This seems to be a consistent theme of all reviews of England Logistics. That's because that is usually the one bright spot that can be found in the day to day drudgery of this place. I will say that I did learn (the hard way) that no one else is looking out or cares about my career but me. This has assisted me in the time since I left there. I learned that I need to control my own fate because I am the one person truly invested in my career.

Cons

As referred to in the title of the review, EL is like a Venus Flytrap: very pretty when you look at it from afar, but if you get too close, it traps you and crushes you until you have no life left. I have seen too many people come into the environment, full of life and hope for the future, only to be torn down by unattainable goals and managers who lack the skills to properly mentor employees. Employees are expected to work long hours with no extra compensation or even positive reinforcement for a job well done and told that hiring extra help is unnecessary. I slaved for years under the assumption that I was a team player, only to realize that I was actually just a really cheap mule. It wasn't until I left and worked for a company that actually cared about employee welfare that I realized that all that EL worried about was money and not employees. Employees hired during the recession have been brain washed into thinking that they have to stay with the company because there is nothing else better out there, when, in fact, there are a lot of great companies out there looking for them.

Pros

You will learn to work hard and be efficient. Working at England has provided some major experience that will benefit me throughout my career, regardless of where I go.

Cons

I cannot speak for the Salesman, but the operations, support, admin, etc are just not compensated competitively or valued by management. Expect to be overworked, and offered little for any extra effort. The company talks about opportunity to move with in the company and opportunity to "move up" and be paid more but the reality is that most people quit within the first 6 months... Maybe they are the smart ones. The company talks of "internal values" of team building and good communication but in reality, it has reached a culture of bullying and intimidation. Fear is the driving factor to get people to work hard. Benefits are terrible. I have found and pay for a better health care package through a private insurance company rather than pay more money for higher deductibles through the England owned health insurance company that offers benefits.

Pros

I am a former Senior Account Manager in the vaunted and much talked about full truck load division. I have been with England for several years. There is plenty of opportunity to sell their product, success can be easily be achieved if you do these simple things. Start each day as a challenge, expect things will go wrong and communicate and manage through the obstacles. Have a can do attitude! A hard working Senior account manager will earn between $55,000 and $75,000 a year. The relationships that you will build at England should be amazing. My best friends are all there or recently left. The business environment is a lot like a sporting event, the energy and intensity is great. The leadership at England in our division does there best to support you and maintain you. My compliments, thanks to the 2 Senior Logistics Coaches, the Director of the Division and the CEO. The leadership does what they can to recognize everyone who sets records. they provide a yearly trip to Mexico all expenses paid for those sales people who are the best. it is an amazing experience for you and the wife!

Cons

There is a lot of stress with this job. it is a non-stop effort to make sure everything gets picked up, all appointments are made, and everything is delivered safely. the stress is enormous and grinding.
