Pros

The humans are amazing! There is a very wide variety of experience levels and knowledge. Diversity of thought is a core value

Cons

The vision of the management team is often widely differing to the actual work be done and it is often not communicated until the last minute to the peons

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. As CTO, I'm glad to see that our focus on getting a diverse team with diverse ideas comes through. Communication is something that we continually strive to improve. In Tech, we do that through open Town Halls, sharing monthly business updates, and team meetings. More is always better so if you have specific suggestions definitely let us know. Transparency is also a core value and I know that leadership throughout Enova is always ready to answer questions or explain the "why" behind decisions. - John

Pros

There are a lot of projects to work on alongside great talent. As a junior developer, there is a lot of room to grow as you learn the technology stack.

Cons

Not all teams have the same priorities and it can be difficult to work on projects that are between teams or inter-departmental.

Pros

Free food, a handful of really smart people, flexibility and decent pay.

Cons

Leadership, innovation and technical expertise in the Software Engineering department is non-existent. Take a look at their blog - almost all the posts are just "fluff". Layers of more management were added which impedes autonomy, creativity and opportunities for employees. Diversity numbers are lower compared to industry average (minorities, women, etc).

Thank for taking the time to provide your feedback. I wanted to comment on a few the cons raised and where we are today as a company and as a Technology team. Enova is a rapidly growing company and that growth requires us to continually evolve to lead what is now a 200+ technology team supporting Enova's multi-national business. That leadership comes from a variety of places -- from other tech companies in Chicago to people promoted from within. We're proud of the team we have and where we are headed. Diversity in leadership and the team as a whole is a key focus for Enova and one of our Tech-wide goals. Gender and ethnic diversity is sadly an industry-wide problem and one we're committed to doing our part to address. That takes many forms, from involvement in charities such as One Million Degrees to an annual conference put on by our Women in Tech ("WiT") group. https://chiwomenintech.wordpress.com/ . We've also worked in the past year to remove unconscious bias from our interview process and job descriptions, as well as working to broaden the pool of candidates for all our roles. Innovation is core to what we do. Enova started with the pioneering idea to offer credit online, in real time backed by powerful analytics to determine credit worthiness. We've built from there into a company that provides consumer and business lending in the US, UK, and Brazil. And we license our analytics technology to other companies.
