There's a myth of only working 18 days a month, reality is we stay minimum manned so there is a lot of extra days worked, many of them you are forced to cover. The only way to guarantee time off is to take vacation. Job is overly stressful at times. Training every five weeks and the administrative burden are the worst parts of the job.

Most departments where I work are understaffed. Many employees are close to retirement and counting the days until they can retire. Knowledge transfer from older to newer workers has been poorly managed. Horrible attitudes within the workplace. We transition from 1 crisis to the next without time to catch our breath. Poor performers are not remediated/demoted/fired. Good performers are rewarded with more work.
