Pros

Great scale of wages. Actually overpriced for what they do. Offers incentive bonus based on performance.

Cons

HRO management (specifically lower and mid level have no training allowing them to understand and mentor their staff. Abuse of power at supervisor level is not uncommon in this organization by this level of management. they exhibit hostile and negative behavior to subordinates. They wukk balk at any idea that might challenge their own and have been know to target employees that challenge with disciplinary actions. Lack of developmental opportunities and job enrichment makes for a stagnant employees. There is NO clear direction and with the Shared Services environment those that are not in teh HR department are left to feel like trained monkeys as they are considered the "paper pusher" and their input for strategic projects is not sought out by managment within either HR or HRO.

Pros

Extremely dedicated employees, many of which have been with the company for decades. It is very common for employees to start their careers with, and then retire from, the company. The benefits are excellent and there is tremendous opportunity to work in lots of different jobs and functions.

Cons

If you want to advance expect long hours and a heavy workload. Sometimes projects or emergencies (e.g., hurricanes) will come up unexpectedly and you will need to work nights/weekends to get everything done that needs to be done. Very very few women in senior positions.

Pros

The job security is pretty good, pay is at least average if not above average, opportunities for making extra money (i.e. excess straight time for salaried folks) during planned outages, and ability to work a 4/10 schedule (during non-outage periods).

Cons

I left the company after a couple of years because I believe that working in the field of nuclear power as an engineer can result in pigeon-holing the employee such that they are not prepared to go work anywhere outside of the nuclear industry. Majority of time is spent doing repetitive, non-value added work. Lots of focus on training, but not a lot of depth to the training. High stakes job = high stress job. Additionally, no guarantee that the plant will continue to operate until I'm ready to retire (i.e. 20 year license extension; who knows if it will be renewed when that expires).
