Pros

EDF makes a positive impact around the globe and has incredibly skilled and passionate people working on critical issues. EDF also makes a point to invest in their employees and leadership is generally receptive to feedback.

Cons

EDF is a large organization, so reaching out to find answers on items even as essential as your healthcare benefits can be a challenge. I wish the HR team took more initiative and care with orienting new employees and provided more detailed breakdowns on topics that they need to know for their roles/personal lives. I also think that the HR team should be more accountable for answering all emails sent to the general HR email, since that is one of the only ways to reach that department when individual questions come up and what they respond to seems selective at best.

Pros

The benefits are the best, from robust health benefits to unlimited vacation time and choice of hybrid or remote schedules. EDF’s compensation package is above standard in comparison to other nonprofits.

Cons

Typical nonprofit environment, do a lot more with very little resources. While some managers are understanding and supportive, others are just absolutely unreasonable with their needs and requirements. Some tend to over work and push tight deadlines on their associates. There have been several times where I was pushed to work nights and weekends. A program manager even bothered me on vacation once because she wanted something done - I of course ignored her. I have even seen an associate wanting to leave early from work sick, and while on her way home, received several messages on Slack from a manager to complete specific tasks (that could have waited for another day) when she gets home. Burn out is an issue!!
