Pros

Interesting and meaningful work work, flexibility, wonderful benefits, motivated coworkers, job stability

Cons

Negative public perception, some employees "game" the system and do the minimum amount of work to get by, dumping work on other coworkers, high-performing employees sometimes get more work put on them instead of recognized for hard work, promotions not always based on merit

Pros

Work/Life balance is generally pretty good, and management is *generally* good about allowing people to work from home if they want to. The people who work here are generally pretty earnest about their work and believe in the mission, and are usually pretty friendly. Work can be challenging, and there are plenty of opportunities to explore your own ideas.

Cons

Decisions often get made either with complete consensus from everyone, or behind other people's backs, with a lot of insider politics going on. Much ado is made on working together without any follow-through. The union is too powerful, often sticking up for poor performing employees, which decreases morale for everyone else. Annual performance agreements are mostly meaningless, and there is a lot of paperwork to get anything done.

Pros

Great TSP matching system; Ability to move between jobs/divisions/regions; Virtually guaranteed promotions/raises with time; Teleworking is an option in time

Cons

They do not promote based on merit- there is extremely little reward for excelling; a lot of current employees reflect a culture that prizes longevity over skill or initiative; Intro pay levels are terrible and their pay scale for positions requiring advanced degrees is about $20K below industry standards
