Great place to build experience

Pros

I enjoyed being able to work on a variety of matters in different industries and the flexibility to work when it suited my schedule. I was able to work on both domestic and international matters that eventually led to a full time job with a Big Law firm.

Cons

It's the nature of the industry - the lack of lead time to the contract attorney when a project ends. And as the competition got smaller with mergers some of the best perks (earned PTO with 60 hour work weeks) went away. While some recruiters pay attention to performance metrics other than simply dph, some recruiters staff with poor performers who are merely "fast clickers" just to fill projects.

Epiq Mass Tort is Lost

Pros

- Remote Work - Mass tort is so disorganized, and middle management is so clueless you can get away with doing the bare minimum

Cons

- Nothing is documented - Technology (hardware provided as well as the software used) is an entire decade out of date. - The majority of software used was built by someone who is no longer employed. Epiq IT is unable to support it which results in constant “workarounds” that reduce quality and decrease efficiency. - Training is practically non existent. Management can not help train you because they don’t have knowledge of the workflows themselves. - The quality of new employees hired is extremely low for two reasons. Well below average pay, and hiring on a “know someone” basis. - Multiple years of service, no promotions received. Raises are negligible, not even a quarter of the inflation rate. - If you show you know how to do something others don’t know how to do, that will now be part of your job forever. - Layoffs every fall, no notice will be given. - Mass Tort department feels like it is reaching its end of life due to lack of employee retention, zero technical support, and facing constant losses due to the former two reasons.
