Pros

I worked for Equity for 5 years as a property manager and I loved every minute of it! Unfortunately they sold the Lexford Division where I worked; so I ended up working for the new company that bought the Lexford properties. When I first started working for Equity I was amazed at the training that was given, the teamwork, and the open communication with my District Manager. I was not just a number; I was valued! I took over a property that was 70% occupied and had numerous issues with clientele and within 6 months I had it cleaned up and 98% occupied and 100% collected. I did not get just a thank you and a great job; I received a surprise bonus and a thank you gift. My hard work was always rewarded and appreciated. I have never worked for another company that cares so much or that has room for advancement and encourages it. I would recommend Equity Residential to anyone. They are the best out there and you won't regret it!

Cons

Honestly there were no downsides to working for them.

We appreciate you taking the time to give us feedback. There are some comments in here that we would encourage you to share with your regional HR Director, so that specific concerns can be addressed. We are in a people business, which means that networking and building relationships are incredibly important. We do hire for attitude and train for technical skills because you can teach someone how to do a job, but you can't teach someone how to have a stellar attitude. We do love to promote from within and sometimes that means there is a learning curve for our new managers. To someone on the outside of hiring decisions these may appear to be decisions based on who those employees knew, but in reality, it's about how they have performed and how they have collaborated with teammates and business partners. If you have questions about your career path and progress, we encourage you to talk to your manager about what are the steps necessary to get to the next level.

Pros

The company is well established with a great deal of resources for all associates. From a IR/IT and legal prospective, they far surpass other residential management companies.

Cons

The New York City regional office is in utter chaos. The employee that wrote the review "Cliques, gossip, and sycophants rule upper management" hit the nail on the head. In order to grow your career in the New York City within Equity, you must go against what is morally and ethically right. The company promotes Doing The Right Thing. If gossiping to succeed, inappropriate relationships with the regional team, sharing of confidential information, and setting different standards based on the clique you are in, is Doing The Right Thing. The Equity's NYC management team is doing just that.
