As for your comment on the cost of living in our core markets (yours in particular), we hear you. You may or may not be aware that prior to 2016, our employee apartment discount was a standard 20% in all markets. Recently, we raised the discount from a flat 20% to a range of 20-40%, depending on the cost of living in each market. We are continually evaluating our benefits, including the apartment discount, and our increase from 20% was one of the ways we took feedback from our employees to heart and delivered on our commitment to our employees. The properties were getting ready to sell and it was very unsettling. However, it appeared that the new owners would keep most staff at most properties. Enjoyed all the residents.

Cons

Not very good pay and very little room for advancement.

As you noted, we sold out of the Ohio market about 10 years ago, and we recognize that a property or portfolio sale is a very unsettling and uncertain time for all employees affected. We have made significant strides in recent years in increasing earning potential through ongoing evaluation and steady increases of our salary ranges, revision of bonus targets/commission amounts for all positions, and increased employee rent discounts. We also have rolled out new career advancement programs and are proud to say that we promoted over 250 employees last year, both at the field and corporate level - including some restructuring of your former department that resulted in 3 promotions on the Recruiting team!
