Pros

The company provided a lot of training such as customer service, fair housing, and many other types of training revelant to the industry.

Cons

The Management was sub-par. Also, the pay was not competitive within the industry and the company did not offer commission on apartment leasing sales.

Thank you for taking the time to share your past experience with Equity. We would like to note that Equity Residential has not owned properties in Ohio for 10 years, and also that your statement about not offering leasing commissions is inaccurate. While individual commission amounts have varied by market, tier, and lease term (and our overall commission structure has changed over the years in response to market dynamics), all Leasing Consultants, including Floating Leasing Consultants, are eligible for new and renewal lease commissions.

Pros

Equity is a great company to work for. They offer good training and they like to promote within. They offer great training for the office and service staff members.

Cons

Recognize and congratulate folks for a job well done frequently. I have nothing else negative to say about Equity. Great company!

Many, many thanks for your 10 years of service, and for your fabulous review! We’re delighted that you love working at Equity Residential, and that you cited so many of the things we pride ourselves on as a company. As a General Service Director, you have a very challenging job; the fact that you love it so much tells us that you have undoubtedly taken advantage of those training resources you mentioned, aligned yourself with great mentors, seen your own career grow, and paid it forward by developing and promoting others. You make a great point about the importance of recognition. We love to acknowledge and celebrate successes by posting quarterly award winners on Ernie, announcing achievements at regional meetings, and capping off the year with a big awards ceremony - but we are always open to suggestions on how to make day-to-day recognition more prominent. You will be pleased to know that we created a committee with this very mission within our corporate communications department this year. If this is a topic you are passionate about, please reach out to a member of the Employee Communications team or to your local Equity Values Council representative(s) with any suggestions. Thank you again for all of your hard work!

Pros

Archstone was a phenomal company overall and I don't think we will see another powerhouse again in our lifetime.

Cons

The culture and overall experience was much better when it was Archstone. EQR is not as focused on the associate experience.

Hello, and thank you for your review. To clarify, Equity Residential and Archstone were never the same company; in 2013, Archstone was bought by Equity Residential and AvalonBay. We always admired Archstone’s people and product, so we were thrilled to welcome so many of their talented employees and beautiful properties into our already strong and well-established company and portfolio. We believe strongly in our core values, which have been in place since we went public in 1993. While we do not plan to re-define ourselves as a company, it is our ever-present mission to continuously raise the bar for ourselves and improve in anyway we can. Archstone and Equity had two very different business models and operating platforms, which is almost always the case when you compare a private company (Archstone) to a publicly traded real estate investment trust (Equity). We recognized before, during, and after the acquisition that these differences would be a challenge for many former Archstone employees to navigate, and while we made every effort to ease the pains of the transition, we also recognized we would not be a fit for everyone. We are sorry to hear that you did not have a better experience with your own transition, and we wish you all the best.
