Pros

Very stable 100 year old company. Once you are hired, they are very reluctant to release anyone. It is a large organization, so there are plenty of different opportunities. For the region, the salary structure is very good.

Cons

Being a 100 year old company, there is a lot of institutional inertia. They are very slow to change, and generally resist change adamantly.

Pros

Fantastic people in the office who all genuinely cared about their jobs and quality of their work product. A cohesive mix in an office of over 100 individuals is very hard to find.

Cons

Pay was lower than other insurance companies in the area. Erie considers the benefit package as part of income. No room for advancement in this office. You are pigeon holed into a position unless you are willing to move to Erie, PA. Even still, most of the home office employees are related to each other. Very hard to break through the nepotism. This company is very behind the times in their systems and lack of technology. Tenured employees with a lot of talent were lost due the company’s unwillingness to adapt new platforms that would allow telecommuting.
