Pros

A fair degree of autonomy; excellent benefits; excellent technology and product direction backed by outstanding customer service. Privately held so a long term view usually predominates decisions.

Cons

very limited mobility internally, especially for experienced individuals; despite words to the contrary, Esri is a very hard company to strike a good work/life balanced; if GIS isn't your passion, Esri is probably not where you want to be.

Pros

- Market leader in GIS related fields. - Expanding company, safe job for the foreseeable future. - Great medical benefits - Good work/life balance. Great benefits and time of for new parents. - Environment among management and employees is friendly and casual.

Cons

- Technology latecomer, rather than innovator. This might prove a great disadvantage in the long run. - Location. - Not many opportunities for career advancement. There are only developers and product engineers and their leads above them. There are (small) salary increases every year, regardless of people's performance. - Most innovative projects are shot down in reviews as (supposedly) irrelevant with the company's business.

Pros

There's a lot of turnover in certain teams which can mean you can get into management roles quicker. The company to work for if you are into GIS. You will find some people that are genuinely customer oriented.

Cons

If you know someone higher up the food chain, you can grab roles that you wouldn't otherwise be considered for. You will find management say one thing and do another thing. They talk about career paths all the time, but when it comes to giving employees an opportunity, they will find an excuse to not support you. Low pay, hardly any vacation time.
