Pros

Paychecks didn't bounce. Other than that, there isn't much positive about this company.

Cons

Equipment was old and worn out. Many of the tractors were in pretty bad shape. The communication devices used to get deliveries and pickups were very old and worn out. They usually stopped working midway through a shift. The terminal I worked at had a very large turnover. Employees with less than 9 months service were already half way up the the roster. (They don't like to use the term "senority") While saying "We're family oriented" over and over again, the truth is, that many drivers don't make it home till 9 or 10pm. At least you can look in on your children sleeping when you arrive home. So, if you want to work local to see and be involved with your family you may want to think twice about working for this company.

Pros

Fellow co workers that are the same title as you will work with you. Decent pay & benefits. Plenty of work.

Cons

Upper management shows no respect, unless you can joke with them and boost their ego. Treated like dogs. Serious lack of communication. Hours always changing. Terrible training process. Information discovered when it is too late. All penalty and no reward (you can do everything right and be rewarded nothing. First time mistake and you hear about it constantly.) Unorganized. Poor equipment not up to par. Mass amount of freight damages. Poor maintenance. Constant gossip. Brutal cold winters and scorching hot summers. Favoritism. Performance doesn't matter as seniority rules all. All that matters is "production" and "bills per hour". Technology is so far behind.

Pros

Pay isn't bad. Benefits are pretty good. Nice work/life balance.

Cons

Technically, Estes is about 15 years behind other freight companies of other companies their size. The billing errors were horrendous. Many of the billing errors were not corrected, because most clerks said it wasn't their job. The Baltimore Terminal is an extremely negative environment to work in. The office supervision was poor, to say the least. No supervisor skills, whatsoever. More than once, I sat and listened to her as she chatted with her friends from other Estes Terminals, on the phone about how horrible other clerks were. She is supposed to be a supervisor, which means a coach, mentor. She needs to be replaced.
