Profit over People

Pros

Some of the best coworkers I've ever had

Cons

Culture has completely gone down the drain. Tenured employees that are the heartbeat of the organization being let go with little to no warning, not to mention the disproportionate number of LGBT+ and people of color included in large scale layoffs. Top down management is totally lackluster, but Etsy brands itself as a place where people matter over profits and that's just not the case. DEI efforts are a total joke and are slowly and quietly being dissolved. Don't be fooled - this is just another tech company and HR will always protect the interests of the company, despite smiling in your face.

Pros

good mission, talented and helpful coworkers, blameless culture, decent PTO and sick time, good parental leave (by US standards)

Cons

stability, benefits have been reduced year over year, insane inequality and sexism in engineering - the main reason I'm considering leaving
