Questionable Tone at the Top

Pros

Growing company with unique challenges

Cons

The main reason for this review has been the Company’s handling of the CoronaVirus. This is Mountain View specific. The tone at the top has been horrendous. From the outside, HR and management are saying all the right things (work from home if you are concerned). However the actions of management (VPs, Directors, Managers, etc) has been very contradictory. These Mid to Upper managers are continuing to schedule in person meetings with their teams when they themselves are clearly sick (actively coughing, sneezing, etc). When members of management continue to show up to work sick, how can the lower level employees ask them to work from home? This is not specific to one team/function.

Management is a joke

Pros

Good if you're a junior person who doesn't know better about what a good corporate culture looks like. Or if you're from NetApp or EMC, in which case this is a step up from your prior dinosaur companies.

Cons

Take a look at the "Executive Leadership" page of Pure Storage. What's the pattern here? In a place where the majority of individual contributors are Asian or Indian, the entire 4x5 grid of 'leadership' is a series of white men with a token woman. Is diversity a problem here? By all means- it's a joke. Also, nothing exciting happening, but lots of kool-aid being slung around about culture, with excited high-fiving and salesmanship. Don't believe the hype about advanced management capabilities. It's just a pretty UI. If you're a talented engineer why not work on public cloud at AWS, Microsoft or Google? Or Dropbox or Box?

Pros

Good product, strong public offering in future. Don't expect any equity.

Cons

"Opportunity" is a word tossed around lightly, but not made available to the successful. Pure Storage is the worst place to be as an inside rep. No longer is there a quota bearing role to move up in career and 1 entry field role for which 20 people are fighting. No room to succeed in W2 or career growth.
