Pros

Salary was generous. Almost everyone in other departments was positive and helpful towards me. Free lunch once a week. Top people in the company are positive minded. Company is growing right now, they have a lot of large clients and it seems like they are expanding their market share in their industry. Probably good opportunities down the line.

Cons

High-deductible health plan is the only option; if you have a family, that really hurts. The company has a few locations in India, most of the developers and R&D department is in India, the CTO is there and communicates back and forth with management here. I was hired by the CTO who's usually in India, there was little to no interview process, it was like "you know a few basic things? Come on in, you can learn on the job, take your time." Life under the Chicago management was the opposite of that. I received no training or direction from the point I started, and was berated for not having more done. I was trying to meet expectations that I was never made aware of until after I "failed" them. When my manager got insulting and abusive for making mistakes, I went to HR and asked them to talk to him, tell them that I need a minimal amount of attention and guidance; it was an entry-level position and I had no experience doing this particular job. They responded by firing me. Maybe other departments' managers are easier to work with. As I said, everyone else was nice to work with. Except the people who I worked under.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience. Our management strives to be clear with expectations and available to help new hires adjust to their roles, and we hope both parties will continue to assess fit during the initial months of employment. In some cases, we find that parting amicably is best. Your feedback is appreciated.

Not The Greatest

Pros

Free lunch on Thursdays. Decent Pay. Apple products used. Interesting office design. Public walking desks. CTA Tax-free Program. Work from home (1 day per month).

Cons

Lacking diversity. Far too many catty women in leadership positions. Disrespectful management, especially if you're a minority. Very informal, lax culture. HR does not seem too concerned with improving the office culture, to ensure equitable relationships and effective management ratings. You may be asked to train a brand new employee while you're still a brand new one, only 3 months in. You also may be asked to work outside of your department because they're not willing to hire someone to fill any language-specific roles in that department. Worst yet, they may promote minimally-experienced colleagues to perform in leadership roles, and thus, inherently select someone who micromanages or enjoys playing politics/favorites due to personal/professional inadequacies and insecurities. Furthermore, technology is treated as business and given more priority than the flow and structure of departments themselves in terms of how people interact, organize, and execute tasks. Therefore, be prepared to find that others may pick up more of the slack when it comes to completing specific job duties and functions. This coupled with technology issues, such as the user being logged out after only five short minutes of intense data analysis via a spreadsheet or specific server, made for an unpleasant environment.

We are sorry to hear you’ve had this negative experience. We assure you that Evive values strong leadership and seeks those with both subject-matter expertise and critical soft skills. That said, your candid perspective on this matter is greatly appreciated and we are taking it seriously. We also appreciate your feedback on the other aspects of our company, such as office culture, departmental structure, and flexibility in hours. These are all areas of importance for us, so we will share these comments with our executive team. Thank you again for sharing.
