Pros

We are a student-focused University that is taking big steps to increase quality advising and curriculum. For the first time in many years, I can see the vision for our future. Upper Management is working together to create a modern University.

Cons

I wish we got merit raises every year. Someti. mes there are too many people trying to be your boss that are not your actual boss.

Where we pretend the people no longer here never existed!

Pros

While they still have money, there is typically a severance package offered to anyone who is left without a job after yet another “repositioning”. If you are offered one of the ever multiplying director or VP positions, you get offered a fantastic package and can probably also work remotely! Lots of congratulations and thanking people all around, if you like that kind of thing. Ambiguity and conflicting messages are great for bonding with colleagues over confusing directives and communications. The high turnover during the last year (both voluntary and involuntary) has led to lots of opportunities to just be creative and do your own thing and hope things don’t hit the fan while you’re in charge of whatever project you are trying to complete before more change means you move onto a different mess (someone else can clean up whatever you just created). The pros really are endless once you start thinking about them. If you like kool-aid, you’re gonna love it here.

Cons

Nothing. No cons. Well, except maybe the ethics of some this will eventually catch up to Excelsior. I’m not really sure why it hasn’t yet, but maybe it’s because threats and intimidation and lying actually do work in most toxic environments, because all the honest people leave. However, many people believe in karma, so… Chins up! Remember: if you don’t have anything nice to say, you better come up with something. Quick. Staying silent is really not an option because it will be interpreted as negative, subversive, or worse. If that feels like lying to you, then it’s probably not a great fit for your personality. Oh, and if you’re allergic to the kool-aid then you are out of luck, especially since our health insurance has recently become a huge pain to deal with - so definitely do NOT drink if you suspect an allergy to dishonesty.
