Pros

The employees who have been at the institution for many years are the backbone of the college. Second to none in the area on online Higher Learning.

Cons

Where to begin? 1) The new Provost is antagonistic towards the employees. Ethics complaints were lodged against him and those who brought them forward were summarily dismissed from the college. Anyone who opposes his in any way or dares to question him are targeted for dismissal. 2) Since January of 2022, there have been over 100 people who have left/let go from the top levels of management through the lowest levels. The toxicity is sapping the energy of the employees and there is no level of caring from upper management. Morale is at its lowest level ever. 3) Top management all live in the Midwest or West Coast with no legitimate ties to the Capital Region. Their communication is full of half-truths that everyone sees through. How they handled the recent reshuffle should be a Masters class on how NOT to conduct business. 4) They will never be a top employer in the Capital Region as long as the current leadership is in place.

Pros

Immediate co-workers; without them I would not make it through my workday.

Cons

Senior leadership. Because of their poorly executed restructure I show up to work not knowing if I have a job, if I’ll have to interview for the position I’ve held for 7+ years or if my position will be given to someone from the outside who may or may not have interviewed. Leadership is working to rid the university of staff who have longevity in an attempt to build their own “clean slate” with no one reminding them that we’ve already done all of the things they’re proposing and doing. Creating new schools is not new. Streamlining the student experience is not new. Spending money the university doesn’t have is not new. Lacking transparency is not new.
