Pros

Working here will cure your imposter syndrome.

Cons

"The Excelsior Way" is an ongoing joke about the project work flow. Someone in the Executive Board pushes a pet project, the staff points outs that the idea is obviously flawed, and middle management admonishes the workers for being too negative. The tenor of that admonishment s similar to an older kid in an abusive household who gets mad at their siblings for making dad angry. Recent examples of the obviously bad ideas include a program for veterans that doesn't take VA benefits and an in-person nursing program in Florida placed within driving distance of several better established and more affordable competitors. "Real talk" is verboten, and nothing is more important than management's personal feelings.

Pros

I love the people I work with. Everyone is kind and treats you like family. We have started doing fun things, like having more events where we get together. Sometimes online and sometimes in person. My boss is always looking for ways for me to try new things and extend my skills. We are focusing on students more and more and technology sounds like it will be catching up to what we need it to be. I appreciate that my leaders are transparent and I always feel like I know what is going on. Amazing benefits and retirement accounts. People who really care about students and there is a new focus on students taking more classes here.

Cons

I wish we could complete more modernization projects, but we do not have enough technology people, so every project has to be prioritized, and sometimes, it takes years to do new things.

Disillusionment central

Pros

Decent pay, good benefits and time off- but you’ll sell your soul for it.

Cons

Unfortunately, what used to be a great place to work, like a family and good friends has turned into a place where hard work, experience and loyalty despite constant turmoil and change are not valued as much as playing follow the leader in silence. They do not respect what their employees think or ideas they have. They ask you to share but, just to use against you later. Anyone who voices their opinions or questions changes being made automatically put a target on themselves. Most disappointing is the way that they make you believe that you are important, we are a “team” and you matter before cutting your throat. Most importantly, the students are suffering for terrible choices made to cut corners and save money rather than what they really need. There is little quality control, resources are sparse, classes are self taught and students are frustrated.
