Lousy for Programmers

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Expeditors offers a good work-life balance and generally positive atmosphere.

Cons

Expeditors is basically a shipping company, like the post office. And like the post office, it's stodgy. They have core systems (actively maintained) written in Cobol. Their Java-development efforts are hampered by old frameworks and patterns. The bureaucracy is heavy, the pay is low, and there's no option to telecommute. It's the opposite type of environment in which smart, young, programmers thrive.

Cons

Technology is awful. Just awful No mgt after 5. Sometimes had to work 9, 10 hours without a lunch break in order to leave for the day. Very strict dress code
