Pros

First and foremost, the people. The culture at Expeditors is very friendly and I enjoyed spending my time with them. I was also compensated for my internship. My supervisor were very tolerant when I had to urgently leave the office.

Cons

It is somehow a routine. Some people prefer this while others do not. The job is easy and does not require a lot of analytical skills.

Pros

Working in the freight business is super stressful, and there will never be a dull moment, but it's a rush. You have to have that kind of mentality, and really care about your shipments and your customers, or you won't like working here. Everyone says they "work hard, play hard," but EI really does. At an operations level, there is overtime in the summer, but you are well compensated for it, and at a management/exempt level, there are regular work at home nights, but you are also well compensated for it. They give you opportunities to take on more and learn different departments, and different aspects of supply chain, and most supervisors are really encouraging. You have to tell them where you want to go with your career, or they won't be able to help you get there. The benefits are fantastic, and once you get to a certain level, so is the pay. The people on each team are also so much fun to work with, and that makes a huge difference to me.

Cons

At an operations level, a limited flex time policy is a huge downside. Internally, there is not a strong Knowledge Management team, systems are supposedly being updated, but it seems like it takes forever to get the most efficient and effective system to handle our processes. There is a lot of localized info that is nearly impossible to get from another office, which is detrimental because we often need info from other offices around the world - whether it's contact info, SOP info, etc. The pay is somewhat low for operations folks, and career paths can feel limited. You can move to other departments somewhat easily, but for upward mobility, there are really only a few options, and that can be discouraging.
