Pros

Great learning resources, space for extreme creativity and experimentation. Field Trip Explainers are part of the SEIU union which provides great protection and alliance. Very kind and accommodating direct managers!

Cons

Being at the bottom of the hiring structure is not great - full-time employees don't recognize you if you are working as an explainer because you are only around during the school year, easy to feel disposable, the wages are low for the bay area.

Pros

You will learn so much about science, technology, engineering, art, and math in a really fun, accessible way from the exhibits and staff. There’s some really genuine, kind staff that are sprinkled throughout the building (however still very much a silo work environment with departments almost in competition with one another for resources and budget)

Cons

The HR department was unhelpful and not affective in dealing with internal issues especially when it involved directors or VPs. You will be lowballed when it comes to salary because they are not as financially stable as they say they are. The DEI efforts are at surface level even though they feel it’s having an impact (it’s not)
