Pros and cons just like any other place

Pros

Reasonable compensation (not stellar but if you're non-manager you have overtime; though you can't really decide for yourself how much you want). 401 k contribution (independent of employee contribution). Though bear in mind that each office has its own culture so each employee's opinion is very office/manager specific.

Cons

The company comes across as "cheap" in certain ways - i.e. trying to depress bonuses for junior staff or sometimes making excuses for no bonuses (and these are not "standard" rules because from talking to other practice employees, every one gets a similar/different story depending on circumstance). Expensive health insurance. Again, unless you're lucky to have a good manager, little support given to junior employees.

Pros

Smart and nice colleagues, interesting projects with great variety that keep things from getting boring at least for the first couple of years.

Cons

Non-existent office management. Non-existent employee orientation. Employee benefits reduced to the minimum and largely ignored, hoping that no unions will form as long as billable work is pressed onto them.

Pros

- Some of the individuals were nice

Cons

- Work life and personal life balance - Never enough work to maintain an adequate UT *Therefore the work environment was very competitive *There were too many big and unjustifiable egos (e.g. just because you are a "Managing Scientist/Engineer" and have a high UT for managing a Principal's case load (e.g. glorified administrative work) does not mean you are a stellar scientist or engineer) - Work that was available to maintain a UT was not interesting (e.g. deposition summaries) - Penalized for trying to find work because marketing for work was not billable - Salary - NEVER received a raise - Expensive and very poor health insurance - Did not value scientists or engineers who valued the scientific process or scientific principles *This was a factory for recruiting individuals with graduate degrees to then just churn out hours to make money for the firm *The company meetings always focused on revenue and outstanding AR
