Pros

Pros: Wide Variety of Projects: Employees gain exposure to diverse work and industries, broadening their expertise and skill set. Positive Coworker Relationships: Many coworkers are supportive and can create a positive working environment.

Cons

Success Tied to Relationships: Advancement and success within the company are heavily influenced by personal relationships with higher-ups, rather than merit. Unresponsive Management: Management is often unresponsive to employee requests or suggestions, leading to a lack of effective communication and support. Internal Competition: There is constant internal competition for work and credit, both laterally and horizontally, which can create a stressful and competitive environment. Lack of Mentoring and Favoritism: There is little mentoring available, and favoritism is prevalent, resulting in employees often working with the same group of people and limited opportunities for growth and development.

A Great Place to Leave

Pros

The money was decent. Some of the projects were fun.

Cons

Like most people I was hired out of graduate degree with the dubious claim that I would be spending 90% of my time doing exactly what I did in my grad school project. This was not the case. If you want a career this is not the place for you, unless you are particularly Machiavellian. The managers do not care for employees and regard them as chattel. Little to no attention is paid to training associate level employees. Managers will ask you to perform legally and morally questionable tasks because "that's what the client wants!" Obviously clients pick this company because they are willing to expend people and resources to get the desired "result." Often, you will see legitimate science being thrown out and many managers will go as far as perjuring themselves in open court "for the client." Money is always "tight," yet the company will go on insane hiring sprees before the quarterly to pad the stock price, only to lay everyone off the next quarter. This company is also extremely lax on safety, just read some of the other comments to get a good idea. Bottom line is, find a better company that will actually appreciate your skills and help you grow. This is not the place for you!

Pros

Smart people, variety of project topics

Cons

Most employees feel alone with no support during their career at Exponent. You are on your own in finding projects and if you don’t have a strong manager who can connect you to a steady stream of projects, you will struggle with increasing your UT. Having a low UT, you will be blamed and is the only criteria you will be evaluated with. There is no support system for new employees at least for the first year. Because of the UT significant importance, colleagues do not support each other to survive. Principals with many projects handle projects themselves with a small group of people around them to have their UT high and get higher bonus at the end of the year. Many other things I can add about the company terrible is the company culture, work life balance, etc. If you have other options, avoid Exponent at all cost.
