Pros

Smart colleagues, lots of vacation days (however taking any time off affects one of the most important performance metrics)

Cons

Little mentoring, favoritism, people tend to work with the same group of people

Pros

Many opportunities if you're a self starter. If you can read between the lines, build relationships, leverage existing ones, and politic, you'll fit in just fine.

Cons

If you're not a self starter this job will challenge you. Consulting in general is hard for trained engineers and scientists. Nobody is going to step by step tell you how to succeed because it's simply not the same path for anyone. If you don't get that, you're going to struggle. Base salary is lower than industry but bonus potential is higher.

Pros

The scientists are really friendly, smart individuals. There's a lot you can learn from them.

Cons

Exponent hired too many people all at once and was not afraid to lay them off even weeks after starting their job. It doesn't seem like execs really understand project needs to allocate staff and know where budget cuts are needed.
