Pros

-Get to work on a variety of projects and learn new things every day. -Frequently work with higher level people in the company. They are willing to teach new people from their experience. -We can manage our own schedule. If no meetings or urgent work due, then work schedule is quite flexible as long as work is done with quality and in timely manner. - Colleagues are really smart and hard working. - A great team work environment.

Cons

- Although there’s a lot of flexibility to work schedule, every week and even every day workflow is not predictable ahead of time in the entry level. - Quick turnover projects don’t give predictable amount of utilization. - Have to spend a lot of effort to look for work by ourselves, otherwise utilization will be low. But it’s hard to get involved in projects when we are new. - Hard to balance between client work and personal professional development with so much emphasis on utilization.

Pros

People. Some of the smartest people to call colleagues. Engaging projects where our clients trust our technical judgement. You are provided an incredible amount of latitude to define your career.

Cons

People. The nature of the business of consulting means that all your coworkers, especially in your practice (department), are also your biggest competitors. You can't really trust the people you work with or those managing you since everyone is trying to maximize their own personal profit. Think of it as a zero sum game, someone else's success takes away from yours - or so the thinking goes. If you know that's what you're getting into and believe that's a situation you'll thrive in, power to you. I personally did not enjoy this environment of never really having coworkers that I could trust. As other reviewers have mentioned, your holidays, vacations, and sick leave all count against you when metrics are generated to compare you against your peers. Even using working hours, to do company required trainings, counts against your profitability metrics. The firm only wants you to do billable work during company time and everything else, on your own time if possible.

The nature of consulting is not a zero sum game. The goal is for each consultant to develop their own niche and to grow the overall business. There are many paths to career development at Exponent and tremendous opportunity to better meet the needs of existing and new clients. You are encouraged to pursue development activities such as speaking at conferences, professional licenses and certifications, key trainings to help you develop your skills as a consultant, and more, as they align with your project work and development goals. Collaboration with colleagues across the firm is encouraged and essential to individual success. Exponent recognizes that recreational time and other time away from the work environment can benefit employee health and morale, and employees are encouraged to take vacation as it is accrued. We value the whole consultant. During our performance review process, we provide positive and constructive feedback in three categories: Professional, Business/Client and Teamwork/Leadership. Performance in all of these categories is essential to promotion.

Great experience that will teach you so much in such a little time. You work on a lot of projects which keeps it interesting.

Cons

High stress and tight deadlines all the time. You work in many projects which takes focus off one area.
