Middle management have no say in pay negotiations; all up to HR ultimately. - Middle management are parachuted into entirely different departments and crafts, leading to supervisors/managers that speak without technical depth and understanding. - Leadership grooming based on "who's the best at their engineering job?", which leads to managers who are good at entry level technical craft, rather than trained in leadership doctrines and people management. - No meritocracy: when times are tough, everyone gets penalized, no incentives for those keeping the company afloat. - Next to no opportunities to negotiate compensation. Due to high attrition rates, engineers have to take double roles, but salary remained frozen.
