One day, my manager asked me to prepare a resignation letter, without a clear reason. My performance is not bad, I was promoted half a year ago. Besides, my green card application is being processed -- it's called PERM Advertising. I definitely can't leave the company. The ad has been published for 1 year, I heard it's almost done. I don't get a bonus, the green card is my only hope. Later, I asked for a few days off, just a few since there are not too many paid time off. I consulted a lawyer, she said my manager can't force me to quit, even though it's a "free will" hire in the contract. Instead, I should wait for being laid off as I will get a big package for it. Besides, I am a minority -- well, it's the first time I realized being a minority is an advantage. I came back to the office, asking for an internal transfer. I knew a manager from the holiday party last month. She has one head-count left. In the end, I stayed there for 6 more months, until our branch is closed. I didn't choose to relocate to the headquarter, so I can't get the laid-off package. I still didn't finish the advertising, since the old version has a defect, and we had to do it again.

The cloud effort has been an evolution. Some early ideas have changed. Some folks left too early. This has created space for new people and new ideas. Bonuses were eliminated for non-management employees and base salaries were adjusted accordingly.
