Pros

They have a majority of friendly and helpful people. It feels like a family. Interns go on field trips, designed to be fun and educational. They have a lot of material for a college student to learn about the business.

Cons

About a third of the time, I was waiting for something to do. It wasn't so much of a bad thing as it allowed me time to study material about the business, since it was my first internship.

Pros

First job I had in the field of Construction. I learned a lot at this firm. Contracts with City, Billable hours for GC as well as contractors. Punchlist work and closeout submittals and how it all related to the general conditions for final pay application to be approved

Cons

Not new to long work hours nor the hour work hours needed in the field - I had worked long and early hours during my time in the military. What was hard was learning the solutions to subcontractors paper work , the backup needed to attach to the GC side for Owner or Arch approval. This is a skill you learn as you go , because so many trades have different areas they are go in and need help in. I found myself doing many levels of paper work as well as notary for subs.

Great Company to Work for

Pros

F.H. Paschen has been a great place to work. There is variety in the types of projects that F.H. Paschen takes on, which is nice because the employees all have different backgrounds and are great resources on the projects. The company is also focused on holding on to good employees by shifting them to different divisions in the same office if needed because of more work or better employee opportunity.

Cons

Due to the nature of construction, not all employees get an opportunity to know the office staff because they are working on projects in the field. Also, promotions can be slower than deserved because of timing on projects. For example, a project engineer may be ready to manage a project but they are a key part of a current project and would hurt the job to remove them early.
